The integration between Adobe Customer Journey Analytics and Target provides powerful analysis and timesaving tools for your optimization program.
The primary benefits of using Customer Journey Analytics as the reporting source for Target are:
Consider the following information before using the Customer Journey Analytics and Target integration:
This integration is not the same as Adobe Analytics for Target (A4T). The implementation and supported activity types are different. Ensure that you thoroughly read this article before using this integration for your Target activities.
To use Customer Journey Analytics as the reporting source for Target, both you and your company must have access to Customer Journey Analytics and to Target. If you need access to either solution, contact your organization’s administrator or your account representative.
To create Target activities with Customer Journey Analytics reporting, you must have either the “Approver” or 'Editor" role in Target.
You must be part of a role in Adobe Experience Platform to set up a Target activity with Customer Journey Analytics as the reporting source. For more information, see Add a Role in Adobe Experience Platform in Configure permissions in the Data Architect and Engineer Tutorial.
Depending on your settings, reporting can be changed per activity or at an organization level. See Reporting Cloud Solution in Configure reporting in Target.
Use one reporting source or the other. You cannot collect data for a single activity to multiple reporting sources.
When you set Customer Journey Analytics as your reporting source, you are prompted to specify the sandbox for reporting. During configuration, you see only the sandboxes to which you have access.
Any existing Target activities continue to use Target data collection and are not affected by enabling this integration.
To use this integration, the preferred implementation method is having Adobe Experience Platform and Target implemented through the Adobe Experience Platform Web SDK.
If you do not currently have the Adobe Experience Platform Web SDK implemented, you can also create an Adobe Analytics source connection to bring the data into Adobe Experience Platform. If you plan to use this method you must select an Analytics report suite alongside the Adobe Experience Platform sandbox that you use with Customer Journey Analytics.
If you use an Adobe Analytics source connection, you will have reports in both Adobe Analytics and Customer Journey Analytics. However, because of different algorithms between both of these solutions the results are not likely to match.
For any questions about timing, see Latency considerations in Frequently Asked Questions in the Adobe Customer Analytics Guide.
The following activity types are supported when using the Adobe Experience Platform Web SDK or the at.js JavaScript library:
Activity types | Supported? |
---|---|
A/B activity with manual traffic split | Yes |
A/B activity with Auto-Allocate | No |
A/B activity with Auto-Target | No |
Experience Targeting (XT) | Yes |
Multivariate test (MVT) | Yes |
Automated Personalization (AP) activity | No |
Recommendations activity | Yes |
Creating a Target activity that uses Customer Journey Analytics as the reporting source is similar to setting up a regular Target activity.
You can also specify that Target uses reporting in Customer Journey Analytics for all activities created in your account (Administration > Reporting > Reporting Experience Cloud Solution). For more information, see Reporting Cloud Solution in Configure reporting in Target.
From the Activities list, click Create Activity, then select the activity type (according to the supported activity chart above) and begin setting up the activity.
When you get to the Goals & Settings page of the three-part activity creation workflow, select Customer Journey Analytics as the reporting source.
The reporting source cannot be changed after a Target activity goes live.
Select a sandbox.
You see only the sandboxes that you have access to in this drop-down list. If one or more of the sandboxes you have access to is missing from the list, verify that you have access to the sandbox. Contact Customer Care if you continue to see issues.
Specify the activity goal.
Select a success metric to use as a goal for each activity. You can choose one of the Target conversion metrics or use a Customer Journey Analytics metric.
Click Save & Close.
After a Target activity has been created, you must create a connection in Customer Journey Analytics. If you already have a connection set up, you can use your existing connection and skip to Step 4 below. The connection allows Customer Journey Analytics to start pulling data from the dataset for reporting.
In Customer Journey Analytics, on the Connections page, click Create a new connection.
Configure your connection and data settings with the correct information.
Add the event dataset that you used when configuring your datastream.
Add the Adobe Target Classification Events lookup dataset, then click Next.
Configure your event dataset.
For more information, see Add and configure datasets in Create a connection in the Adobe Customer Journey Analytics Guide.
Configure your lookup dataset with the Key field as “key” and the Matching key field with the following path:
_experience.decisioning.propositions.scopeDetails.correlationID
Click Add datasets, then click Save on the next screen to finish your connection.
Set up a data view in Customer Journey Analytics. A data view ensures that the data from your connection can be used properly.
Set up your data view and make sure it points to the connection you created above.
For more information, see Create or edit a data view in the Adobe Customer Journey Analytics Guide.
To properly view your Target data in Customer Journey Analytics, you must add the following fields from your Lookup Dataset as dimensions:
To use Target dimensions in the Experimentation panel, set up the following context labels:
Finish setting up any other fields, then click Save and continue when done.
